Mesothelioma cancer is a malicious type of cancer which affects the lining of some big cavities in the human body. The vital organs such as heart, abdomen, lungs etc are contained in these cavities. They are also known as the serous cavities and serous membranes surround these cavities. They are responsible for protecting the major organs from friction and abrasion that occur when the organs move against each other during routine functions like breathing, heart beating etc. There are special cells called mesothelial cells which form the mesothelium, the major tissue layer of serous membranes. The cancer which affects the mesothelium tissue is called mesothelioma.
