Another title for the Washington Redskins in 2009
Washington Redskin tickets are nearly impossible to find every season, and 2009 will be no different. The Redskins are a phenomenal football team, one of the best in the league, but they hold the advantage of playing on the FedEx field, in Maryland, and training in Virginia. They are right smack in the middle of the popular - or political - center of the U.S. and are one of the most popular teams in the league.
The Washington Redskins were not always known as such, actually, they were originally from Boston and known as the Braves. In the beginning, in 1932, the team did not play like a professional football team. Even after a couple of years, in 1936, even though they played as a team and were winning games, the city could no longer support the team - financially. At this point, it was determined that the team needed a new place to call home, which would be Washington.
The Washington Redskins have played in numerous championship games, and have brought home five NFL championship titles. They began winning championships back in 1937, when they won their first NFL championship, followed by another NFL championship in 1942. In 1982, they won their first Super Bowl championship, only to win again in 1987 and 1991.
To add to their astonishing record, the Redskins have won five Conference championship titles, and division championship titles 12-times, the first one being in 1936 to the most recent in 1999. They have appeared in the playoff games more than most other teams in the league with a total of 22 appearances. Looking at these numbers, there is no question as to why stands are overflowing with adoring fans at every game.
The early years, of their career, while still in Boston, was not bright, but immediately made a change for the better with their move to Washington. Their success today, and their fans, is due - in part - to their early success. The Redskins, while suffering a twenty-year slump, have proven to be an All-American team, and they will continue to do so as the years go by.
The Redskins were one of the last pro-football teams to accept integration, but once they did, things began to look up for the team, once again. The teams’ first African-American player was none other than Ernie Davis. He was soon traded for another phenomenal player by the name of Bobby Mitchell, whom currently can be visited at the Hall of Fame. Many other amazing players were introduced to the Redskins, over time, which made the team what they are today.
The Redskins franchise is worth 1.5-billion dollars - today - and ranks as the second most valued team in the entire NFL. They have the highest gross revenue, in the NFL, averaging $300 million each year. Much of this is due to the fact that they break attendance records on a regular basis, 7-years in a row has been their most amazing feat! The Redskins are - financially - one of the most valued teams around, but rated by fans, they are number one.
With draft picks and trading coming to an end, fans anxiously await the final results. The Redskins already have what it takes to bring home another championship title, but with new blood to strengthen the weaknesses, no other team stands a chance.
